Strongman Competition - The Winter Classic 3

1. Axle, Log, and Circus Dumbbell Press Medley

The athletes will perform the three implements in the above order. Athletes cannot have their hands in contact with the axle prior to commencement of the lift. Full extension by the arms with the feet in the same plane must be achieved to receive the “down” command the judge. Beating of the “down” command is a “no-lift” and must be performed again before proceeding to the next implement or the medley considered complete. Axle and Log must be pressed in front of the head; no behind the neck press is allowed and will be considered a “no-lift.” Any implement dropped behind the head is a “no-lift” will have to be performed again. The athlete’s hands must maintain contact with the implement on the descent. Any implement being intentionally dropped from the top of the lift will result in an automatic disqualification. Knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, soft belt, hard belt, and grip shirts are allowed. The belt clean is allowed. Any implement cannot be rested on the head and will be considered a no-lift. One minute to complete the medley; completing all three implements in the fastest time wins the medley.

2. Farmers Carry to Standing Rope Sled Pull

The athlete will start with a 45-foot Farmers Carry, drop the weights, then move over to the rope to pull 45-feet from a standing position. The back of both implements must cross the line to give a “done” command. Knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, gloves, soft belt, and hard belt are allowed. The athletes can have their hands on the Farmers upon start of the lift. One minute to complete the medley; completing both implements in the fastest time wins the medley.

3. 13” Wagon Wheel Texas Barbell Max Deadlift

The athletes will only get three attempts. Increasing bar weight until all competitors have made their attempts (the weight will not come off the bar). Lifting straps (conventional or figure-eight), knee sleeves, soft belt, and hard lifting belt all are allowed. Baby powder is allowed, but no other liquid or substance is allowed and will result in immediate disqualification. Hitching and ramping is allowed. The shins must be covered, socks, tape, sleeves, etc., athletes will not be permitted to compete without. The athlete must have knees locked, standing erect for a “down” command from the judge, and must maintain contact with the barbell to the ground for a “good” lift. Conventional deadlift form (hands outside of knees) only. If a competitor misses a lift, they are done, even if it is a first attempt. Women’s weight will start at 215, Men’s weight will start at 385. All weight jumps are 20lbs until women go over 405lbs and men go over 705lbs, then jumps will be 10lbs at a time. The heaviest lift wins the event.

4. Cube From Hell

This event is similar to Power Stairs but will be done from the floor. The athletes will have four T-Pins spaced around the cube in increasing weight, must lift each weight to the top of the cube, clear their hands, receive the “down” command from the judge, then bring the pin to the floor, then move onto the next pin. Women’s box height is sixteen inches, Male’s is eighteen inches. Athletes must start the event with their hands off the implement. Knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, soft belt, and hard belts are allowed. Chalk will be provided. One minute to complete the medley; completing all four implements in the fastest time wins the medley.

5. Sandbag To Shoulder Medley

Three sandbags will be laid out in a line of increasing weight, standing vertically. The athlete will start with their hands off the sandbag. Each sandbag must be shouldered with the opposing arm extended out, knees locked and feet in the same plane to receive the “down” command. The athlete must drop the sandbag behind them after the “down” command. Multiple picks are allowed. Knee sleeves, elbow sleeves, wrist wraps, soft belt, hard belt, gloves, and grip shirts are allowed. Golf tack is only allowed, any other grip substance is forbidden and will result in disqualification. One minute to complete the medley; completing all three implements in the fastest time wins the medley.

Weigh-In Information:

Weigh-Ins will be at Edgar's House of Pain (5131 51st Ave S #121 Fargo, ND 58104) from 7-9am and 4-6pm on Friday, January 19th. If unable to make these times, contact Jason Ehlert @ 701.200.9208 or dakotabarbell@yahoo.com to arrange a time. There will not be day-of-show weigh-ins.
